Job Expectations:

  • Perform dental prophylaxis, sealants, and fluoride treatments
  • Utilize digital x-rays and provide oral hygiene instruction
  • Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide
  • Perform scaling & root planing, prophylaxis, and periodontal charting
  • Provide preventive care and administer anesthesia and x-rays

Two of the most frequently asked questions from our latest and greatest candidates: 

How do we handle patients who refuse x-rays?  We do our best to educate if they initially refuse, but we refer to the ADA's recommendations, which can vary based on if it is a New Patient, Child, Adult and also based on caries rate, etc.  Typically though if they refuse X-rays, it is a preview of how the patient will be on attitude and/or compliance so it tends to be a red flag. We don't allow a patient to "sign off" on no X-rays, so if it goes beyond a reasonable period of time or if they have non-compliant behavior, we maintain the right to no longer see the patient (which is the ADA's stance as well).

What do we do with patients who are late?  If there is still time to see the patient, we will do our best to get done what we can.  But, with hygiene schedules so full these days, that is rare.  In most cases, the patient needs to reschedule.  Or we will see them for X-rays and exam only and reschedule for the scaling and prophy at a later date.  It really depends on how late they are.  It isn't the same as the doctor's schedule where there may be more flexibility to make up time.  What we won't do though is make the hygienist rush through their appointment and try to do everything as if they had the full appointment worth of time to do everything. We hold each appointment as a commitment that we adhere to. As with the X-ray issue, we maintain the right to no longer see the patient.
