The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic, (WG-2606-11), to work under the 7th Bomb Wing located at Dyess AFB, TX. This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs. The use of Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the general public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status. The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate highly complex systems of electronic sensing and control. Hourly Rate is $27.98 - $32.65 based on experience. (Not including overtime, holiday pay, annual or within-grade pay increases) AFCS Benefits: Paid Time Off

  • Plans and lays out work from mechanical electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and equipment manufactured handbooks. Reviews work order requirements reflecting systems to be replaced overhauled, repaired, fabricated, or modified. Visits work site and analyzes, evaluates, and determines damage when planning repair/replacement and modification projects. Plans the work sequence and determines what
equipment meets the requirements for serviceability.
  • Performs pretest, operational (functional) and final testing (alignment and calibration) of electronic systems, components and/or subassemblies. Performs maintenance, calibration and repair of electronic and mechanical controls of utility and environmental systems which contribute to total system operation. Installs, connects, and adjusts pumps, motors, valves, relays, electronic solenoids, electrical switches, detection and supervisory components, electronic pressure switches, electronic flow switches/meters and electronic tamper switches, safety devices, and other similar devices.
  • Installs, overhauls, repairs, fabricates, and/or modifies electronically controlled industrial systems, components, and/or subassemblies. Works on and programs computer controlled and centralized energy management and control systems (EMCS) which use special purpose, dedicated computers to store operating parameters and initiate adjustments. Applies a thorough knowledge of logic circuits, electronic amplification and control circuits, and complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and/or pneumatic systems.
  • Operates, repairs, maintains and trouble shoots a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and supporting equipment with complex problems and multiple subsystems requiring extensive repairs and judgment to locate malfunctions. Systems include those with a variety of compressors and a variety of refrigeration controls. Systems use a variety of complicated motor controls and other controls to protect against overload, overheating and vibration.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on electrical power support systems. Checks equipment for fuel, lubricants, coolant and battery fluid levels. Checks pumps, batteries, fan belts, and spark plugs for wear and tear replacement. Checks engine performance, generator bearings and oil and temperature gauges. Changes fuel filters, oil filters, air filters and lube oil. Adjust thermal and safety controls. Perform Local and State requirements for startup and
operation of Power Generating Equipment.
  • Starts, operates, adjust, and stop single or multiple systems on a continuing basis. Starting, regulating and stopping the equipment and performing routine operator maintenance. Operators regularly make rounds, reading gauges, meters and DDC equipment, making needed adjustments, recording readings, and performing other related duties such as conducting chemical test and adding chemicals, lubricants, and water. Performs operator maintenance and repairs.
  • Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe, clean, and secure work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
  • Follows federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. Performs clean-up duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area.
RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, capabilities, and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices.
  • Knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits for power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, and similar devices; related electrical, mechanical, optical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
  • Skill in troubleshooting electronic problems on large projects and applying test procedures.
  • Ability to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and install complete electronic systems; to read and interpret a variety of technical data, such as schematics, diagrams, and technical orders relating to the electronics and electrical trade.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) equipment control sequences as well as a thorough knowledge of the components of Hydronic systems and Air Balance as applied to HVAC systems; of safety, environmental, and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
