Job Duties

VDOT's Staunton District Harrisonburg Bridge Crew is seeking a highly qualified Structure and Bride Supervisor to join their team As the successful candidate, you will supervise a work crew in the repair, maintenance and replacement of bridges and structures in accordance with established safety standards, VDOT specifications and procedures and equipment operational standards as well as establish daily work goals, monitor performance, provide on-going coaching, and document and evaluate work accomplishments.

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable skill in the use of various carpentry tools, concrete forming, finishing methods, fabricating steel components and welding.
• Knowledge of structure, bridge construction and maintenance methods, procedures, practices and equipment.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lead, direct and train others.
• Ability to obtain Flagger, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certifications.
• Safety shoes required.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor, operate and maintain light and medium equipment used for bridge maintenance and repair.
• Considerable knowledge of safety policies, procedures and programs applicable to highway and bridge maintenance work, equipment and tools.
• Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
• Knowledge of basic inventory practices and procedures and ability to complete reports and maintain records.

Additional Considerations

• Valid Commercial Drivers license.
• Experience in the maintenance or construction of bridges and structures.
• A combination of training, experience, or education in Engineering, Construction, or related field desired.
• Experience in inventory management.
• Experience supervising others and evaluating performance.
• DEQ: Inspector for Erosion Sediment Control (ESC IN).
• Flagger.
• Experience leading, supervising and training others.
• Ability to read and interpret bridge and structure plans and specifications.
• Experience in carpentry, concrete placement and finishing, and steel component fabrication. Experience leading, supervising and training

This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with the job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations.
