Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and calculate the materials required
  • Measure distances and mark reference points on construction sites
  • Prepare work surfaces for construction or repair by cleaning and chipping away any old mortar or excess debris
  • Mix mortar and grout to the correct consistency for the specific task at hand
  • Lay out patterns or foundations according to plans, using straightedges and rules
  • Cut, shape, and dress materials such as bricks, stone, or concrete, using chisels, power saws, and other hand or power tools
  • Lay bricks, blocks, stone, or other masonry units to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures
  • Apply and smooth mortar or other mixture over work surface
  • Remove excess mortar and ensure the even distribution for a clean finish
  • Use levels, plumb bobs, and framing squares to ensure alignment and structural integrity
  • Install building fixtures including windows, frames, and doors
  • Perform basic carpentry tasks as needed to aid in the masonry work
  • Follow safety protocols while handling tools and materials, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Erect scaffolding and other temporary structures for construction purposes
  • Maintain tools




Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in masonry or construction work
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and drawings
  • Must be able to pass a fit test and use a respirator when needed
  • Proficient in using tools and equipment related to masonry work, such as trowels, levels, and power saws
  • Strong understanding of construction techniques, materials, and the qualities of different types of bricks and stones
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials and perform labor-intensive tasks
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and regulations (OSHA)
  • Ability to mix cement, mortar, and plaster to the correct consistency
  • Skilled in laying out patterns, forms, or foundations according to plans
  • Experience with erecting scaffolding and setting up ladders safely
  • Attention to detail for ensuring alignment and integrity of structures
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and supervisors
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and at heights
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and materials
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
