Job Summary:
Assist in mechanical testing, imaging, measurement and inspection of samples, and general laboratory tasks. This position is to support a team of Product Design FEA engineers in carrying out tests on materials/parts/components/products for FEA model development, as well as improving the reliability and performance of our products throughout the company. The work will be centered around testing of different materials, include but not limit to metals, polymers, brittle materials. Typical tasks would include performing mechanical tests with universal test machine or drop tower, operating cameras to collect data, using microscope to inspect or measure samples pre-test and/or post-test, organizing data, documenting details and communicating with collaborating engineers. Training and detailed instruction will be provided for all specific tasks or measurements required.
Responsibilities:
- Mechanical testing using an Instron, drop tower or similar test apparatus
- Imaging and measurement of test samples
- Basic microscopy or characterization using various lab equipment
- Documenting test results, organize data as well as samples to maintain good traceability
- Work with vendors or other team to get coupons fabricated/prepared
Required Skills:
- Experience with test Instron test machine.
- Familiar with Digital Image Correlation (DIC), more specifically with ZEISS DIC system (previously known as Aramis GOM)
- Experience with operating drop tower
- Comfortable dealing with multiple tasks always
- Ability to record and report data cleanly to many engineers
- Excellent record keeping
- Good at maintaining a good condition in lab
Bonus Skills:
- Experience python coding for data post processing
- Experience with coupon mounting, cross section polishing
- Experience with optical microscopy
