Summary
The Distribution Lead- Training is the main interface with the operators on the production floor as well as management. This person provides the minute-by-minute and hour-by-hour direction to the hourly work force in the department. Distribution leads may also work in areas to provide process support for distribution in an assigned area or areas within a facility. The Distribution lead will directly work with the shift supervisor to drive company and facility metrics as well as production.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate training activities for new hires, they can supplement training and provide 30/60/90 progress feedback to Supervisor.
- Provide hands-on assistance in trouble shooting and eliminating process issues.
- Provide hands-on assistance in support of day-to-day operations.
- Provide hands-on assistance in area of cost reduction- areas such as: dimensional control, manufacturing methods, etc.
- Exhibits good decision-making and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Able to influence and train others in a respectful manner.
- Illustrates a minimum level of communication skills (verbal and written) and knows when it is time to escalate.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.
- Must possess strong multitasking capabilities and organizational skills.
- Effectively work in a team environment.
Safety Management
- Promote a Culture of Zero by continuously monitoring safety rules and requirements (i.e. dress code/PPE/reporting requirements/machine guarding)
- Respond to employee safety concerns in a timely manner
- Communicate safety violations, employee safety concerns and/or identified safety hazards to Direct Supervisor, a member of Management, and/or safety representative.
- Create Maintenance Work Orders for alteration or repair of safety hazards
- Assist with development of safe work procedures and/or job hazard analyses
- Participate in safety initiatives and facilitate participation for direct reports
- Single point of contact for site evacuation/shelter in place, in absence of Direct Supervisor
Quality Management
- Support the Site/Corporate Quality and Scrap Reduction goals, objectives, and values
- Perform, review and document required Quality Checks as outlined by process documents (i.e. Day by Hour)
- Complete and report Shift Lead Summary documents as required for the Daily Huddle Process by end of assigned shift to Supervisor
- Assist in problem solving events and return/customer quality efficiency.
Distribution Management
- Drive the overall performance of the area to ensure that warehouse activities occur as scheduled within the plan.
- Ensure that the attainment to plan is monitored and that warehouse accurately produces the volumes detailed on this plan.
- Promote processes and standards within the assigned area
- Ensure that equipment is set up safely/correctly/to standard, not ill-used, causing danger of breakdown or damage, is maintained in a clean/hygienic condition, and rectified in a timely fashion
- Drive continuous improvement methodology and principles within the area to improve operational performance and excellence.
- Maintain close liaison with other Lead Operators, Supervision and Management to ensure minimum downtime and waste and ensure effective utilization of staff throughout assigned area
- Promotes & drives operational excellence and strives to continually drive a better customer experience
- Responsible for operating machines or jobs in the department when required.
Labor Management
- Ensure that employees are adequately trained and sufficiently flexible to maintain continuity of production.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of employees in all areas and assist with troubleshooting
- Monitor attendance of employees and refer unsatisfactory attendance or timekeeping to the Direct Supervisor and/or Manager
- Monitor and provide support for break times and deal with any issues as and when they occur
- Ensure standards of behavior are adhered to and refer any repeated non-conformance to the Direct Supervisor and/or Manager
- Ensure time spent on productive work is maximized
- Motivate, develop and encourage team members to maximize productive work while keeping all staff well informed.
- Provide coaching to assigned employees within area
- Serve as a point of contact for employees in training or new to the task
- Assist with completion of evaluations for new employees or team members in area, ensuring clear feedback and goals are set
Process Support
- Provide hands-on assistance in area of cost reduction - areas such as efficiency in picking, loading/unloading, replenishment, counting, cuts/parallels, inventory management, or returns
- Participate as needed in Lean activities, such as Kaizen events, Problem Solving events, SMED, VSM and others.
- Must be flexible and willing to accept responsibilities that are outside the traditional scope.
- Routinely monitors and audits team members to ensure process variation is minimized
- Any other activities as directed by Distribution Leadership.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma, or equivalent, is required.
- Must have good work and attendance record. (No active final written discipline on file)
- Must obtain a valid forklift truck operator's license.
- Must be able to read, count accurately, do simple math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and write legibly.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions explicitly.
- Basic P.C. skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
- Must be able to learn to function in SAP/Lucas at a high level
- Ability to function and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced operating environment is critical
- Must be able to interface and communicate effectively within the organization,
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a changing business environment.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions explicitly.
- Judgments concerning operation of department are encountered.
- Must be familiar with warehouse operating systems.
- Must be able to handle stress caused in meeting deadlines with tight scheduling requirements.

Job Description
Summary
Team Lead will work directly with operations to support production needs around production control and planning of machines in their designated area of responsibility. Responsibilities will cover functions related to coordinating a seamless production flow in relation to raw materials, work in process material, and through to finish goods transfer of material.
