JOB SUMMARY

Lead Housekeepers, under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager, provide day to day oversight for duties assigned to Housekeepers. The Lead Housekeeper assists the Manager in the supervision and training of housekeeping staff and assumes a leadership role in the Manager's absence. Lead Housekeepers may be assigned to oversee the cleanliness of any area in the community including Memory Support, Long-Term Care and Skilled Care, Independent Living, public areas, offices, and conference rooms. Lead Housekeepers may be required to perform direct cleaning tasks including those that involve exposure to blood contamination and must follow the required procedures for handling, cleaning, disposing, or moving of objects and materials and the clean-up of blood, infectious materials, or bodily fluids containing blood in accordance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION

  • Assigns day to day responsibilities for specific job duties and/or functional activities and oversees completion; conducts safety and quality inspections; assists in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity
  • Assists with onboarding and training new employees and serves as a Champion for new Housekeeping employees
  • May assist the Manager with interviewing applicants for open positions in Housekeeping.
  • Provides technical guidance to staff members to ensure that assignments are carried out promptly and correctly.
  • Conducts routine and random inspections of residential units and common areas to ensure tasks are performed properly and thoroughly and reports deficiencies to the Manager for action.
  • Collaborates with residents to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service, and problem resolution; reports any indication of residents' deteriorating physical, emotional, or mental health by noting such cues as uneaten foods, deteriorating cleanliness, unsafe placement of furniture or candles, incontinence, or conversations that indicate unhappiness or loneliness
  • Monitors and maintains stock levels, ordering supplies when necessary
  • Maintains facilities in safe, sanitary, and infection-free conditions by cleaning and disinfecting areas as established by cleaning procedures, guidelines, and checklists
  • Inspects storage rooms and utility/janitorial closets for upkeep and supply control; restocks items in appropriate storage areas; notifies the Manager of supply needs; distributes supplies to the staff on a daily basis.
  • Fills in on daily cleaning duties when necessary to fulfill staff shortages.
  • Performs work in a safe manner, reporting any necessary repairs, hazards, and unsafe conditions including improper disposal of medications and sharps, environmental conditions in units that could contribute to mildew or other hazards immediately to supervisor/director
  • Reports emergencies to Security as necessary
  • Cleans and maintains equipment avoiding misuse; reports damaged or unsafe equipment to supervisor/director
  • Ensure laundry duties are completed in accordance with all state and federal regulations
  • Maintains infection control standards including proper hand washing and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Follows the Williamsburg Landing Hazardous Communication policy with regard to the use of cleaning chemicals
  • Evaluates work processes and methods and submits recommendations for continuous quality improvement
  • Performs other duties and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required; two years' experience as a Housekeeper; valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

General knowledge of housekeeping practices and procedures; practical knowledge of housekeeping supplies and equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; presents self in a highly professional manner and maintains a positive attitude; communicates with colleagues and other departments with professionalism and respect; keen attention to detail; ability to work well independently and within a team; ability to lift 50 pounds, stretch arms above head, bend to clean under furniture, climb stairs and step ladders, and reach overhead with frequency; performs repetitive tasks on a continuous basis; must show initiative and good judgment
