Position description

POSITION AVAILABLE: Assistant or Associate Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine

SALARY: The salary range for this position is $169,500 - $219,100. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, (i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step) are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Veterinarian with advanced training in Small Animal Internal Medicine is required. Board certification in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM), or completion of a residency program approved by the ACVIM or ECVIM by the effective date of appointment is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD degree or advanced clinical training. Clinical experience and competence in small animal internal medicine is required. A clinical and research focus in respiratory medicine or endocrinology of small animals is desired. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching is required. Documented research record or potential to develop an independent research program in respiratory medicine or endocrinology of small animals is desired. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846) or a University license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) prior to beginning clinical duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching: Responsibilities include: 1) participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM curriculum; 2) clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH); 3) participation in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH; and 4) participation in the graduate academic programs (MS and PhD) of the campus. Desired didactic and clinical teaching capabilities are in the areas of respiratory medicine or endocrinology of small animals.

Clinical: The position includes a 50% clinical commitment to the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service in the VMTH. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and residents in the clinical setting; providing excellence in health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

Research: The development of a creative, independent and productive basic and/or clinically oriented research program in respiratory medicine, endocrinology or another subdiscipline of small animal medicine is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals. Individuals will provide leadership in directing research projects of residents and graduate students. Highest consideration will be given to those with a research focus in respiratory medicine or endocrine disorders of small animals.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Veterinarian with advanced training in Small Animal Internal Medicine is required.
