Essential Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Effectively and safely operate excavators, utilizing machine specific controls and machine attachments to complete all necessary tasks related to project needs including digging trenches, excavating and moving materials, debris, and other objects.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision in digging and excavating to avoid damage to underground utilities and structures.
  • Follow project plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure that excavation work meets required standards.
  • Communicate with project managers and supervisors to update them on the progress of excavation work.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on the excavator and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and legislated safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with other workers on the job site to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Report incidents or mechanical failures to management following the established procedures.
  • Use internal procedures to report maintenance needs as they arise.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including the operation of other heavy equipment.


Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience operating excavators and other heavy equipment on a civil construction site required.
  • Extensive knowledge of excavation machinery operation and capabilities required.
  • Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades required.
  • Valid Class E Florida Driver License with safe driving record required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong ability to ensure accuracy of work required.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision to complete assigned tasks required.
  • Ability and willingness to follow written and verbal instructions required.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and terrains.
  • This position requires prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
  • This position requires the ability and willingness to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
