Production team members at Smithfield perform physically demanding work that requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength and stamina.
Team members must be available to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime, depending upon production demands.Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.Applicants must be willing and able to: Able to perform setup of bags on the Auto-bagger station.Required to bag 18 portion hams, 13 whole hams, 4 wings bags, 18 rib bags per minute and various other product per standards set forth by management. By-products may use manual bagging stations for various products.Ensure the manufacturer seal is straight and in the appropriate position for the patch to cover the bone (portions)Ability to lift, bend, reach, push, pull or roll product weighing up to 22 pounds continuously.Uses Auto-bagger to bag product as to ensure standards set by management are adhered to and to minimize/eliminate waist; contacts supervisor to resolve difficulties beyond what incumbent is trained/authorized to handle. Read schedule and follow product changes to ensure the proper positioning of product in the bag per specifications. Understand and follow oral and written instructionsPerform a task requiring continuous/repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching hands, flexing, and extending armsStand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shiftWork around animal blood and/or carcass partsWork with a knife (if trained)Work in cold areas (approximately 20-40 degrees) and/or warm areas (over 100 degrees)Work in an environment that is wet and humidWork while wearing a hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoesWork in a noisy environment using personal protective equipment (PPE)Work with sanitation/cleaning chemicalsWork around strong smells/odorsClimb/move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways and platformsBend, stoop, and twist repetitively over the course of an entire shiftWalk long distancesThis work is physically demanding and can require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups.
