The ideal candidate combines strong data analytics and programming skills with an understanding of meteorological data, cloud-based processing, and data visualization. This individual should be comfortable working independently while partnering closely with data engineers and subject matter experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and process large, complex meteorological datasets, including numerical weather prediction output, satellite imagery, and weather station data.
- Develop and optimize scalable data processing workflows with a focus on processing time, memory usage, and overall performance.
- Create clear and effective visualizations that translate complex meteorological information for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Troubleshoot data quality, ingestion, pipeline, and processing issues.
- Build and maintain reusable, well-documented SQL queries and analytical datasets.
- Work with meteorological variables from traditional numerical weather prediction and AI-based models to identify relationships relevant to operational use cases.
- Optimize processing and visualization of large raster and geospatial datasets using techniques such as spatial indexing, binning, downsampling, and efficient memory management.
- Collaborate with data engineers and internal subject matter experts to move analytical products from development into production.
- Translate business questions into reliable and efficient analytical solutions while maintaining a strong focus on data accuracy and quality.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in data analytics or data science using meteorological data sources.
- Experience working with large, complex datasets in cloud-based environments.
- Demonstrated experience moving a product or analytical solution from development into operations.
- Experience troubleshooting data quality, pipeline, and ingestion issues.
- Strong SQL skills, including joins, CTEs, window functions, and query performance optimization.
- Experience processing large datasets efficiently and optimizing for memory and performance.
- Strong understanding of how data structure impacts visualization performance and usability.
- Experience communicating technical findings and data issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

- Experience using Git or a similar version-control platform.
- Understanding of data governance, lineage, and metadata management.
- Experience in utilities, energy, infrastructure, or another regulated industry.
- Familiarity with operational, asset, and time-series data, including experience working with imperfect operational source systems.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to data accuracy and reliability.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical and business teams.
- Skilled at translating complex data into actionable and understandable insights.
- Comfortable working in an environment with multiple priorities and evolving business needs.
