Senior Network Operations Engineer
Location: 100% Remote
Shift: 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern Time
Schedule: May include regular weekend coverage, potentially Saturday through Wednesday
Duration: 12 Months +
Interview Process: One 60-minute panel interview
Assessment: Glider technical assessment required
Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior Network Operations Engineer to support a large-scale, global Cisco network environment powering mission-critical customer applications. This is a hands-on, real-time network monitoring role focused on identifying and prioritizing network events, troubleshooting connectivity issues, managing incidents through resolution, and coordinating with internal engineering teams and global vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor enterprise network infrastructure, connectivity, performance, system events, and alerts in real time.
- Support mission-critical customer applications and connections between data centers and network hubs.
- Identify and triage physical-layer and network-layer incidents.
- Prioritize incidents based on severity, customer impact, and response requirements.
- Open, update, document, and manage incident tickets through resolution.
- Participate in rapid-response calls for major outages and service-impacting events.
- Coordinate troubleshooting and recovery activities with customers, network engineers, internal teams, and global vendors.
- Manage vendor escalations and follow up until incidents are fully resolved.
- Create and implement approved network changes.
- Use SecureCRT to access network devices and support troubleshooting activities.
- Use SolarWinds for network monitoring and Riverbed for packet tracing and analysis.
- Maintain accurate incident timelines, troubleshooting notes, escalation details, and resolution documentation.
- Apply security, automation, and observability principles to daily network operations.
- Support continuous improvement of network monitoring and operational processes.
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience in Network Operations or a Network Operations Center.
- Strong Cisco networking knowledge.
- CCNA certification.
- Hands-on SecureCRT experience.
- Experience supporting enterprise networks in a 24/7 monitoring environment.
- Experience troubleshooting physical-layer, connectivity, and network-layer issues.
- Strong incident triage, escalation, ticket management, and documentation skills.
- Experience coordinating with internal engineering teams and multiple external vendors.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple incidents in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Security-first approach to network operations.
- Ability to work the required second-shift schedule and regular weekends.
Preferred Skills
- SolarWinds network monitoring experience.
- Riverbed packet tracing or network performance analysis experience.
- Basic Ansible knowledge.
- Network automation experience.
- Familiarity with Agile ceremonies and technical demonstrations.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools for troubleshooting, monitoring, or documentation.
- Software engineering or DevOps exposure.
Training and Schedule Expectations
- Initial training will be conducted on first shift for approximately three weeks.
- Typical training hours are 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, with limited flexibility.
- After training, the engineer will transition to the regular 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern Time shift.
- The regular schedule may include Saturday through Wednesday.
- The expected ramp-up period is approximately 90 days before the engineer operates independently.
