Location: Newport News, VA
Duration: 12+ Months
Experience:
- 20 years of experience working with Turbine Generators is required.
Recommended Skills:
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to the shipbuilding industry.
- Experience in installation of hull inserts and familiarity with fasteners.
- Ability to read and understand complex drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
- Skilled in using lapping and blue checking tools for liner sizes/soft foot.
- Knowledge of shipbuilding terms and nomenclature.
- Ability to operate a lathe.
- Experience in valve overhaul (steam and WOG - water, oil, and gas).
- Knowledge of AC & refrigeration repair and installation of lift check valves.
- Familiarity with steam plant cleanliness and air conditioning hydro testing.
- Experience in installing main engines, propulsion plant machinery, and equipment.
- Knowledge of system cleanliness grades.
- Experience in installing aircraft elevators, anchor windlass, masts and antennas, and lube oil flushing.
- Experience in testing main engines, hydrostatic testing, and installation of sea valves.
- Proficiency in using precision instruments (e.g., ruler/micrometer) and working with system grooming.
- Experience in boiler operations, optical alignment, and boiler tube replacement.
- Experience in pump/motor installation and alignment, turbine installation, and heat exchanger tube installation.
- Familiarity with shafting and bearing work, hydraulic components, and low/high-pressure air compressor installation.
- Experience with distilling plant tests, deck or hanger door installation, and flange makeup.
- Knowledge of basic ship systems, cargo crane operations, portable milling/drill machine operations, and watertight compartment operation.
Specific Safety Training:
- Confined Space Training: As per OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1915, Subpart B.
- Hazard Communication Training: In line with OSHA Standard 29CFR 1915.1200.
- Respirator Training: Must pass a Respirator Medical Clearance Examination and be trained in the use of MSA COMFO CLASSIC respirators (with MSA-approved vapors and dust filter cartridges). The client requires the use of this specific respirator, which weighs approximately 12 oz. Daily use of the respirator may occur.
Job Summary/Description:
- Fall Protection Training: Must be trained in the use of 4-D Body Harnesses, Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines, and Beam Clamps as per OSHA regulations.
- The client highly recommends the vest-donning type of body harness with a D-Ring in the back.
- All fall protection equipment must comply with ANSI Z359.1 standards.
- The client may require specific 60 Self Retracting Lifelines and Quick Grab systems.
PPE training includes general requirements for:
- Eye and face protection
- Head protection
- Foot protection
- Hand and body protection
- Hearing protection
- Body harnesses for fall arrest systems and positioning device systems
