Sr. Technical Writer

This role owns how complex ideas are explained, visualized, and defended. The Senior Technical Writer, Graphics Designer, and & Visual Communications team member is responsible for producing clear, technically accurate writing and high-impact graphics that make architectures, concepts of operations, and value propositions immediately understandable to decision-makers. This is not a handoff role. You will take raw inputs from engineers and leadership and turn them into complete, evaluator-ready deliverables with words and visuals aligned, polished, and intentional. Core ResponsibilitiesTechnical Writing & Content Development- Author and edit technical documentation including system architectures, design descriptions, CONOPS, SOPs, whitepapers, and user documentation- Translate complex engineering and data concepts into precise, accessible narratives without diluting technical rigor- Shape technical storylines so documents read with intent, flow, and defensibility Proposal & Capture Enablement- Support FAR and OTA proposal efforts across technical, management, and innovation volumes- Develop win-theme-aligned narratives and ensure visual elements reinforce evaluator scoring criteria- Enforce structure, clarity, and compliance under time pressure Visual & Graphics Design-Design clear, professional graphics including: - System architecture diagrams - Data flows and pipelines - CONOPS and operational workflows - Infographics and executive visuals - Convert dense text into visual explanations that reduce cognitive load - Ensure consistent visual language, iconography, and formatting across deliverables Brand & Visual Standards- Maintain and evolve document and visual style guides- Ensure all written and visual outputs align with company brand, credibility, and mission focus- Raise the baseline quality of proposals and technical artifacts over time Quality Control & Review- Perform red-team reviews on both written and visual content- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or claims that are not visually or technically supported- Own version control and final production readiness Cross-Functional Collaboration- Work directly with engineers, solution architects, PMs, and executives- Proactively extract information through interviews and working sessions- Push back on ambiguity, weak logic, or unnecessary complexity Required Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in technical writing, visual communications, or proposal development- Proven ability to design professional technical graphics—not marketing fluff- Strong understanding of technical systems, software architectures, or data platforms- Demonstrated experience producing evaluator-ready documents under deadline- Ability to independently own deliverables from concept through final submission Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting DoD or IC customers and proposal efforts (FAR, OTA, SBIR, BAAs)- Familiarity with cloud, cybersecurity, data platforms, or AI/ML systems- Experience with CONOPS and operational-level documentation- Active or prior security clearance (or eligibility) Tools & SkillsetAdvanced Microsoft Word and PowerPointGraphics and layout tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, Visio, Draw.io, Lucid, or equivalent)Strong diagramming and information design skillsVersion control and collaboration tools (SharePoint, GitLab, Confluence, etc.) What Success Looks Like- Technical ideas are understood faster and evaluated more favorably- Proposals are visually coherent, technically credible, and easy to score- Engineers and leaders trust you to “make it make sense”- Graphics and writing reinforce each other instead of competing Why This Role MattersIn national security and complex technical environments, clarity is power.
