SHEET METAL MECHANIC AIRCRAFT LEADER with Security Clearance

Duties Help * You will lead three or more employees in performing work, which is typical of the Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) trade on F/A-18 aircraft. * You will fabricate metal repairs and modify F/A-18 aircraft sheet metal and composite structure and various component parts of the F/A-18 aircraft. * You will provide leadership of a group assigned to special projects, assist in the training of personnel as it pertains to the sheet metal mechanic-oriented tasks. * You will pass on instructions received from a supervisor to other workers, set the pace and demonstrate proper work methods. * You will be required to have regular and predictable attendance, which is an essential function of this position. * You will be assigned collateral duties supporting and maintaining shop functions. You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: (1) Possessing full journeyman skills and working knowledge in the sheet metal processing techniques and aircraft maintenance procedures; (2) Fabricating metal repairs and modifying aircraft sheet metal and composite structure and various parts; (3) Disassembling, modifying repair and assembling structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on aircraft and associated components; (4) Installing airframe changes, engineering modifications, structural repairs and technical enhancements to meet requirements; (5) Reading, interpreting and complying with directions and requirements within blueprints, sketches, technical data, and engineering specifications; (6) Demonstrating acceptable level of skill pertaining to the use of hand tools related to the metal smith trade; (7) Utilizing skills for sheet metal machinery and using precision measuring tools to accomplish work tasks; and (8) Communicating and providing training and instruction to personnel of various levels. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 35lbs and occasionally will be required to lift up to 45lbs. Assistance will be available in form of hoists, dollies, hand trucks, etc. Work requires standing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and working in strained and awkward positions.
