Job Summary (basic description)

This position is the subject matter expert on the day-to-day administration of benefits and is responsible for benefit enrollments and changes, troubleshooting eligibility issues, monthly bill processing, COBRA and responding to daily inquiries from employees, attorneys and managers.

Essential Functions

  • Respond to benefit inquiries from all levels within the organization.
  • Communicate late enrollments and overrides to health insurance carriers, process qualifying event changes.
  • Conduct new hire Benefits Orientation bi-weekly to educate new hires about their benefits.
  • Collaborate with Payroll and Finance to ensure billing and payroll deductions are handled timely and accurately.
  • Prepare, audit and ensure payment of vendor invoices and self-billed insurance payments
  • Support the annual open enrollment process - pre and post enrollment cycle and answer employee questions throughout the process.
  • Create and send Benefit Termination letters.
  • Audit COBRA enrollment, commuter, FSA reports, and similar benefit detail monthly.
  • Provide support with compliance efforts such as plan valuation, 5500, annual audits and government reporting.
  • Audit data in HRIS to ensure accuracy regularly.
  • Run and audit on-demand reports for renewals, census requests or surveys.
  • Review and approve all new hire enrollments in Workday.
  • Assist Retirement Benefit Administrator with FAQs.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • 2+ years of benefits experience. Experience in a law firm or working with professional staff, highly desired.
  • Experience with Workday, highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of employee benefit plans, laws and regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Intermediate excel skills (including VLOOKUP and pivot tables).
  • Strong data analysis skills and data entry skills.
  • Excellent client service and interpersonal skills.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor s Degree preferred

For Westchester County, the expected salary range for this position is between $40 - $47.50 hourly, or $83,200 and $98,800. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
