Distinguished Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization.

In this role, you?ll provide technical leadership to teams of mobile engineers supporting the core Android platform upon which Capital One?s award-winning mobile app is built. The frameworks you contribute to will be used by hundreds of engineers across the company and shipped to millions of customers. You?ll bring extensive experience in mobile development and Android ecosystem, including but not limited to Kotlin and the Android SDK; familiarity with reactive and asynchronous programming patterns; proficiency with build tooling (Gradle) and testing (jUnit, Espresso); a strong understanding of UIs development (XML, Jetpack Compose); and a passion for platform engineering.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s Degree

  • At least 7 years of experience in mobile development for Android

  • At least 3 years of experience with following technologies: Kotlin, Coroutines, Channels, Flow, Android Studio, and the Android SDK

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 10+ years of experience in Android development

  • 8+ years of experience in reactive programming paradigms

  • 8+ years in mobile cybersecurity concepts and techniques (vulnerability detection and remediation, certificate management)

  • 8+ years experience building enterprise-grade mobile applications and frameworks

  • 5+ years experience working with large, federated monorepo codebases

  • 2+ years experience with the Apple / iOS ecosystem and related technologies

  • 2+ years experience with web services and cloud architecture

  • 10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $274,800 - $313,600 for Distinguished Engineer

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate?s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
