As an Exercise Physiologist at Tufts Medicine, you will coordinate and implement cardiac rehabilitation programs, guiding patients through exercise and lifestyle modifications to enhance their health. This role requires working closely with healthcare professionals to create tailored exercise plans based on individual patient assessments. You will also be responsible for conducting educational sessions about cardiovascular health and ensuring a safe environment for patients during rehabilitation.

Job Overview 

This position performs and coordinates activities of the cardiac rehabilitation program and plays a vital role in promoting health and wellness through exercise and physical activity interventions. This position involves working closely with patients, healthcare professionals, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement exercise programs tailored to individual needs. Conducts assessments, monitors progress, and provides guidance and education to help patients achieve their health and rehabilitation goals. In collaboration with physicians and other therapists, specialized exercises are integrated into the care plan.   

Location: Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus - 1 Hospital Drive - Lowell, MA

Hours: 40 hours/week (Four 10-hour shifts), Monday – Thursday, 7:00a – 5:30p

 

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field 

2. One (1) year of related experience

3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

4. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

 

1. Assists with the planning, administration and direction of daily activities of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs. 

2. Serves as a liaison between physician and patient. 

3. Develops a treatment plan that includes a problem list and established patient goals that are based on the individual patient’s risk factor profile, functional capacity, potential for improvement, and personal goals.  

4. Organizes and provides educational sessions to patients and family including the nature, management, and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

5. Develops, implements, and evaluates a PI plan for cardiac rehab based on MACVPR recommendations in conjunction with the Manager., develops, plans, and establishes policies and procedures for all phases in conjunction with the Manager.

6. Develops, plans, and establishes policies and procedures for all phases in conjunction with established JCAHO criteria.  

7. Assigns Exercise Physiology students in accordance with the patient’s needs and the personnel’s capabilities and qualifications, and assigns other duties as needed

8. Maintains equipment and environment to ensure a safe area for patients, family, and staff.  

9. Continuously evaluates his/her own practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.

10. Ensures adequate updates are made to the patient’s medical record to validate appropriate charges.

11. Assists the Manager in preparation of program reports and statistics.
