Controls Systems Technician Intern at Johnson Controls summary:

The Controls Systems Technician Intern will rotate through various teams to gain experience in HVAC programming, engineering, equipment management, sales, and project management. The role involves commissioning systems, performing diagnostics, calibrating electronics, and documenting processes while adhering to safety standards. The candidate must demonstrate a strong work ethic, be coachable, and take pride in their work.

What you will do:Rotate through our different teams to gain a well rounded internship.
  • HVAC Technicians - will work with our Team Leader and his technician team on programming and instrumentation checkout. This will be where the intern spends most of their time.
  • HVAC Engineering - will work with our Engineering Leader and her engineers on packing engineered drawings, tracking material, etc.
  • HVAC Equipment - will work with our equipment PMs to understand the equipment side of the business.
  • HVAC Sales - will work with our Sales team by generating reports and meet deadlines for bids. This includes HVAC equipment, HVAC controls, and fire sales.
  • HVAC Admin - will work our admin team on billings and back end office work.
  • Fire Technicians - will work with Quinten and his fire technicians on fire specific devices.
  • Project Managers - will work with our Project Management team on managing projects across HVAC and Fire.
How you will do it:
  • Loads system-level controller software.
  • Performs basic commissioning and system diagnostics from system-level controllers to end devices (i.e. sensors, actuators, etc) and completes all required commissioning documentation.
  • Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
  • Calibrates systems requiring basic electronic test equipment. 
  • Completes administrative tasks including but not limited to time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation. 
  • Documents changes and provides information for as-built documentation.
  • Communicates with the JCI contractor or customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
  • Follows all safety standards and attends required safety training.  High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
