The Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) is competent in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. Provides patient-centric care.Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.Meets daily productivity goals.Maintains JCAHPO certifications.Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications.Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary. Works evenings and weekends as needed. Performs organizational duties as assigned.Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients.Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams. Performs imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and Slit Lamp exams. Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff.Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff.Acts as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives. Acts as preceptor and trainer for team members.Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned. Displays intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.Exhibits ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using EMR telehealth platform. Demonstrates competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups.Prepares patients for intravitreal injections. Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe.
