The Outpatient Advanced Rehab Clinician Physical Therapist at Intermountain Healthcare specializes in providing rehabilitation services for patients with various injuries and disabilities, utilizing advanced clinical skills and techniques. This role involves mentoring clinical teams, leading quality improvement initiatives, and participating in education and research while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The clinician also plays a key role in enhancing clinical practices and fostering evidence-based care within the rehabilitation services.
Job Description:
The purpose of an Advanced Practice Rehabilitation Clinician (APRC) within Intermountain Healthcare Rehabilitation Services is to identify and promote the highest possible level of care for individuals seeking rehabilitation services in their specialty area. Advancing to the level of an APRC depends on objective, reliable, and valid documentation of knowledge and skill. This process will require achieving and maintaining a national or industry-standard certification where available or completing a formalized petition for exemption by providing evidence of extraordinary performance (i.e. capacity to perform/complete duties consistent with an APRC) for at least 3 years. An APRC is intended to use best evidence to promote both the science and the art of their specialty area of practice. An APRC is expected to lead clinical growth and change. An APRC is expected to mentor others, champion quality improvement, promote and participate in research, and foster evidence-based clinical programs throughout Intermountain Rehabilitation.Scope
The incumbent evaluates and treats a wide variety of injuries, diseases, and disabilities including those requiring more advanced clinical skills and techniques using physical, occupational, and speech therapy interventions. The incumbent provides mentoring, strategic direction, and lead change for clinical teams across all Intermountain Rehabilitation Services. Must work at least 50% of clinical time in area of specialty/certification.
Job Essentials
Functions as core clinician (e.g., appropriate documentation for each patient in a complete, thorough, and timely manner in accordance with national, State and Intermountain regulations, patient billing in an accurate and timely manner, staff management including recruiting, hiring, and annual evaluation assessments).
Performs advanced practice patient care including prioritizing patient signs and symptoms and engaging patients while considering patient complexities.
Demonstrates Clinical expertise and leadership for specialty department/clinical programs. Fosters and promotes interdisciplinary care and motivates others
Communicates with manager/director regarding clinical program's progress, challenges, and strategic plans.
Meets managers established minimum productivity standards.
Establishes and maintains an annual plan to complete required activities (both manager-directed and caregiver discretion) in the areas of care process development and implementation, mentoring and consulting, education and research, and marketing and community outreach (which may include the following):
Care process development/implementation:
Participates in professional practice councils and workgroups.
Implements new or revised care processes, procedures and protocols as needed, to improve patient care.
Participates in the organization and implementation of professional development activities for other caregivers (e.g. staff educational seminars).
Engages in continuous quality improvement activities.
Leads/facilitates Intermountain Continuous Improvement Meetings and other in-service/trainings on best evidence practice.
Participates in chart audits.
Participates in initiatives to improve I-Centra documentation and the integration of clinical outcomes.
Mentoring & consulting:
Provides consultation, education, and training in their specialization area throughout Intermountain.
Serves as a Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCI) or fellowship\mentor (CCI).
Mentors or assists in on-board clinicians.
Mentors clinicians seeking growth as a professional or with residency/fellowship requirements in their professional societies.
Provides consultation, education, and training in their specialization area to other healthcare professionals (e.g., universities, physician groups, other healthcare systems).
Education and research:
Presents Educational session/peer reviewed lectures, Platform presentations, or Abstract at State of National Conference.
Lectures to community support groups, advocates for community outreach, services, and education programs.
Participates in State or national committee/board/SIG/task force.
Participates as a member of their national professional organization.
Stays current in literature and champions integration into best practice.
Develops, revises, and updates CPM and clinical procedures.
Leads and/or participates in IRB and other research projects.
Marketing and community outreach may include participating in the development and implementation of established marketing plans consistent across One Intermountain.
Minimum Qualifications
Current State License.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Received Clinical Specialist exception from rehabilitation services system leadership team in situations where clinician's professional national organization does not offer board certification (e.g. voice, autism, or vestibular).
Successfully achieved national association clinical specialty e.g. Orthopedic Clinical Specialists (OCS), Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT-LANAO), American Board of Fluency and Fluency Disorders (ABFFD) (see APRC Annual Plan and Maintenance Guideline for up to date list).
Three years performing/functioning as a Clinical Specialist in designated area.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Basic Computer Skills.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of leadership experience in a clinical setting including creating and managing projects to completion.
Experience teaching groups.
Knowledge of mandatory joint commission, state, and federal regulations.
