The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer performs breast sonography and diagnostic mammography, adhering to quality control and safety standards. Shift: Days
Performs breast sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam. Positions patient and performs screening and diagnostic mammography. Analyzes results and identifies issues with and resolves quality of imaging results, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Assists physician with performing interventional procedures including ultrasound and stereotactic guided biopsies, fine needle aspiration and localizations.
Prepares equipment and supplies. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions. Participates in ensuring compliance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations.
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program
~ Registered as a Radiologic Technologist (RT) and certified in Mammography (M) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Certification in Breast Sonography (BS) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) State licensure if required by law
~6 months of experience in Mammography or Breast Sonography.

Sonographer:
Reviews patient history, physician's orders and does scheduling. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
