PCU Float RN Job Details
Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Southwestern Virginia nursing jobs)
Shift: 3x12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15); Setting: PCU/Medical-Surgical Float Pool
Charting: EPIC electronic health record system
Patient Ratios: PCU 5:1, Med-Surg 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block or every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: 1 holiday per 13-week contract
Registered Nurse Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or Compact State); Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/Stepdown RN experience required
Proficiency with EPIC charting system
IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care
Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, titrating cardiac drips, rapid response/code team participation
Experience with PCA, heparin protocols, IV insulin, and telemetry
COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
PCU Float RN Responsibilities
Float between all Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical units as staffing needs require (may float 2-3 times per shift)
Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to adult and geriatric populations
Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, respond to emergencies, and titrate cardiac drips
Provide care for patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, and non-invasive ventilation
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
Accurately document all care in EPIC EHR
Participate in orientation and ongoing clinical training as required
