The R&D team is responsible for conducting advanced technology experiments that yield learnings for Schwab’s senior business and technology teams, inspiring them to make strategic decisions about cutting-edge technology and take successful concepts into production when applicable. Schwab’s R&D team, by design, works primarily in sandbox environments and develops proofs of concept to inform and catalyze technology.



As a Sr R&D Engineer, you will be part of a small team of engineers conducting research on emerging technologies and user trends, creating innovative concepts to improve Schwab's customer and employee experiences, implement prototypes, and present directly to Schwab senior leadership teams. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers with frameworks and best practices as well as presentating to small and large audiences across all levels of Schwab.

What you have


Required Qualifications

BS in Computer Science, or other similar field of study
5-7+ years computer engineering experience
3+ years experience mentoring and collaborating with a small group of talented engineers to explore technology & user trends, implement PoCs, and demonstrate those concepts to senior business executives
3+ years proven presentation skills and experience (PowerPoint, Public Verbal Speaking, Design)
3+ years experience partnering with other technology and product organizations to arrange and coordinate technology discussions, demos, idea brainstorms
3+ years experience anticipating technology advancements that may impact products, services, or customer experience
3+ years experience demonstrading exceptional ability to acquire new knowledge and skills to solve challenges
3+ years experience demonstating experience thinking outside the box and leading others in doing so

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with AI, GenAI, ML, AR/VR or Quantum Computing
Background Integrating consumer, marketplace, technical and business trends and insights into R&D plans and projects.
Strong desire to “wow” our customers.
Passionate in cutting-edge technologies, intolerant to poor product designs.
Developing industry expertise and stay abreast of technology trends; contributing to staff development by sharing industry and technical knowledge.
Enjoy working with people in a diverse team environment.
Ability to think on one’s feet and enjoy finding the new ways to solve problems.
Excellent communication skills for both small and large audiences. Having the ability to clearly articulate direction decisions.
Financial industry experience
Genuine drive and curiosity to explore emerging technologies and passion for sharing knowledge
Willingness to be comfortable with the unknown and embraces ambiguity
