Nursing Team Leader

POSITION SUMMARY: As a Nursing Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing and sustaining top-quality patient care through adept management and coordination of care activities during your assigned shift. Your expertise will be essential in maximizing resources to ensure compassionate and efficient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide both clinical and administrative leadership to the team.
- Foster interdisciplinary relationships and be an accessible communicator with all staff.
- Champion the nursing profession and uphold professional practices.
- Act in the Administrator’s stead when necessary, making crucial administrative decisions and effectively communicating with the Administrator-on-Call.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or enrollment in such a program is required. A current Registered Nurse license is a must, specifically from the State of Connecticut. Certification is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE: Candidates must possess a minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in an acute care setting with a demonstrated potential for leadership.
COMPETENCIES: Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, alongside basic computer skills in WORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK are necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct regular visits to patient care units to monitor patient conditions, assess staffing needs, and provide necessary support to caregivers.
- Efficiently manage the distribution and utilization of personnel during your shift.
- Evaluate patient care quality and engage in quality improvement initiatives, including necessary data collection for compliance.
- Keep the Nurse Executive or designee informed about any critical situations that might affect patient care.
- Assess patient placement and needs from a holistic hospital perspective, allocating resources effectively.
- Engage in nursing and organizational policy-making by participating in councils and committees.
- Adhere to pharmacy protocols when the pharmacist is unavailable.
- Fulfill responsibilities outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Manual.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to function in high-stress situations.
- Utilize critical thinking skills for priority setting and delegation.
- Pursue personal and professional growth, acting as a mentor to others.
- Respond to emergencies, leading the team’s response efforts and assessments.
- Enhance patient satisfaction through high-quality care delivery and regular patient interactions.
- Contribute to staff evaluations and monitoring of performance improvement plans.
- Exhibit good judgment in upholding hospital policies and addressing unique patient care situations.
