Description

This position is part of the dental team. This position is responsible for delivering clinical dental services and preventive dental care in both clinic and outreach settings. This position provides preventive and diagnostic services, treatment, patient education and referral care. Participates in quality improvement initiatives as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Provides complete, comprehensive outpatient care for dental/oral conditions to include oral examination and treatment of conditions, including follow-up of problems detected.
  2. Instructs assigned dental assistants.
  3. Assists Director of Dental Services and/or Chief Clinical Officer with competencies and clinical evaluation of clinical staff.
  4. Responsible to make appropriate referrals to internal disciplines of CHC/SEK and/or external resources/agencies for additional services required.
  5. Prescribes medications for patients for treatment of conditions, as indicated.
  6. Provides dental consultation to other providers within CHC/SEK as needed.
  7. Responsible for accurate, timely, and clear medical record documentation.
  8. Provide appropriate follow-up with dental support staff to include telephone/written correspondence (e.g. inform patients of test results).
  9. Assures integration of patient education into all treatment phases.
  10. Participates in dental outreach activities as assigned.
  11. Provides clear written and oral communication to patients/guardians and employees.
  12. Participates in an on-call system for after-hours care for established patients of the pediatric practice.
  13. Ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of a potential action.
  14. Assures that the dental policies as related to the services of CHC/SEK are current and accurate.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Full licensure to practice dentistry in the State of Kansas.
  2. Completion of an accredited pediatric practice residency program.
  3. Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry, preferred.
  4. BLS certification is required.
  5. PALS certification is required.
  6. Valid Driver's License as travel is a requirement for this position.
  7. A strong community/public health orientation, preferred.
  8. Commitment to serving the underserved.

  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care.
  3. Communicates through appropriate channels. Use proper chain of command for patient complaints.
  4. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  5. Must be computer literate and must be proficient with the organization's electronic health record.
  6. Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization.
  7. Provide customer service in accordance to the organization's mission.
  8. Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members.
  9. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization's policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand; possess and use good manual dexterity; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent. Good lighting and comfortable temperature and good ventilation.
