SALARY: at the appropriate step on the teacher salary schedule

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters degree, major in speech-language pathology
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with SB (Speech and Language Impairment) Endorsement or ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology
  • Experience with developmentally disabled students desirable
  • Knowledge/experience with alternative communication systems, related techniques and equipment
  • Knowledge of Michigan and Federal Special Education laws
  • Proficiency in Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet search platforms
  • Ability to withstand the strain of teaching
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides direct service to special education and low incidence handicapped population
  • Assesses communication skills using appropriate standardized tests in formal and informal settings
  • Provides consultative service to instructional staff
  • Interprets impressions and makes recommendations to parents
  • Plans and helps implement individual student communication system/systems
  • Participates as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and IEP team
  • Provides in-service programs for parents, staff, and community agencies as needed
  • Demonstrates an awareness of behavioral management techniques
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of developmentally disabled, physically handicapped
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Completes diagnostic, placement and service procedures according to federal, state, county and local rules and regulations
  • Such alternatives to the above responsibilities as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable
