The Safety Specialist administers health, safety, environmental and may consult or review on workers compensation programs for all facilities. This position assists in identifying deficiencies, manages the process to correct these deficiencies trains and supervises satellite safety personnel.

Job Duties:

  • The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
  • Develops work safety standards; monitors workplace for safety issues, policy violations and OSHA requirements; issues and tracks safety warnings at MA facility; tracks safety warnings at all other facilities; communicates these to employee's supervisor.
  • Develops, implements, conducts and tracks safety training programs to insure compliance with government agency regulations.
  • Performs environmental monitoring as necessary to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Develops process and monitors removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards.
  • Researches and provides ongoing training topics and instruction pertinent to the FIBA industry.
  • Develops, and maintains a safety library. Maintains emergency preparedness and evacuation processes.
  • Develops implements and monitors safety incentive and may review and be consulted on return to work programs.
  • Conducts safety audits for purposes of compliance and to minimize liability working with outside vendor when appropriate.
  • Coordinates and attends monthly safety meetings with safety committee members; issues meeting minutes for management review and action for all facilities.
  • Establish, implement and monitor safety committee issues and actions for out of state facilities.
  • Tracks all workers compensation issues in compliance with OSHA regulations and state laws, as well as analyzing data to implement safe work practices.
  • Administers industrial accident investigations, prepares accident reports and insures compliance with posting and reporting regulations.
  • Performs analysis for root causes, monitors accident trends and implements programs to correct and eliminate hazards to reduce number of accidents in workplace.
  • Monitors, evaluates and recommends changes in existing and proposed personal protective equipment purchases.
  • Functions as point of contact for OSHA and other safety related government agency inspections. Maintains in depth knowledge of federal and state regulations as they pertain to DOT, OSHA, Workers Compensation, DEP, individual state safety requirements and other safety and health related agencies.
Job Requirements:
  • BS in safety or related field or equivalent experience preferred. Requires 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Training and presentation skills are desirable.
  • Should be computer literate and familiar with safety software programs. Possess good written and verbal skills.
  • Have in depth familiarity with OSHA, DEP, DOT, HAZMAT , Workers Compensation laws and other safety and health related government agency laws and regulations. Multi-lingual skills would be a plus.
  • Complexity Requires ability to develop and implement safety initiatives, policies and incentive programs that are fully compliant with OSHA, DEP, DOT, HAZMAT regulations. Trains and educates on Safety and Security; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines.
  • Latitude of Judgment Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; Includes appropriate people in decision-making process.
