8% Shift Differential-Premium Pay Reports to the Aquatics Manager. Under the guidance of the Aquatics Coordinator, is responsible for conducting quality Learn To Swim classes and instruction.

- Arriving early and staying after classes to answer any questions.
- Selecting safe, effective and appropriate lesson plans; analyzing clients' abilities and technique and offering modifications as necessary.
- Following the scheduled class format and maintaining the proper skill and ability level.
- Maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all students for the duration of class sessions.
- Cueing movements and patterns so that the client can successfully perform movements in a smooth and continuous manner.
- Demonstrating a genuine interest in, and dedication to, improving the swimmers' ability and enjoyment of swimming as a lifelong skill.
- Changing class routine as needed for the participants to progress.
- Picking up the pool area before and after class.
- Assisting the Aquatics Coordinator in the development of new classes.
- Being supportive of other instructors, clients and the facility staff in general.
- Remaining familiar with and supporting facility programs, special events, membership promotions and other events.
- Attending mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
- Remaining knowledgeable of and abiding by substitution policies; minimizing the use of substitutes.
- Receiving complaints, comments and/or suggestions from clients and promptly taking appropriate action.
- Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through a background in aquatics programming (swim team, lessons, safety training). Certification through the American Red Cross (ARC) as a Water Safety Instructor, or prior experience with a Learn To Swim program or swim team, youth athletic or skill coaching background is required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Requires an enjoyment of working with all ages in aquatics, children through adults.
- Requires knowledge of class management skills, specifically with children.
- Demonstrates the leadership, interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively with a diverse group of clients, staff, members and facility users in a professional, courteous, friendly and sincere manner.
- Requires CPR/AED/First Aid certification or arrangements to be certified within the first three months of employment as an Learn To Swim instructor.
- Works in an athletic club environment, in-water working with clients and students.
- May be exposed to frequent interruptions, the potential of increased noise levels and some discomfort due to cool or warm temperatures.
- Requires the ability to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings and weekends.
- Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
