Resident Assistant

The Resident Assistant (also referred to as a Caregiver) provides direct resident care and is responsible for assisting our residents in any and all areas of care. Resident Assistant are a vital element in maintaining a positive physical and psychosocial environment for our residents.
The Resident Assistant will also assist residents in their other daily functions such as assistance to and from meals in the Dining Room, activities and transportation services, and escorting to and from the Barber Shop or Beauty Salon. Resident Assistants may be asked to assist in other areas as needed to maintain the daily functions of the Community.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and
- Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience and training; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION
- Ability to pass criminal background check and drug test
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Food Handlers Card
** ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Adheres to and conveys Community's philosophy of maintaining elements of self-care and encouraging independence
- Receives report from the previous shift and medication aide
- Reads the shift-to-shift report and shower schedule for information and changes before coming on shift. Documents in the shift-to-shift report book and ADL binder before going off shift
- In the absence of the Resident Care Director or licensed staff, reports to the Medication Aides as shift leaders
- Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs), environmental orientation, vital signs, simple treatments, and other care
- Always adheres to Community policies and procedures when providing care, and completes required documentation. Examples of care include, but are not limited to:
- Bathing
- Dressing and undressing
- Oral hygiene, grooming, nail care and shaving
- Incontinent care or toileting and personal hygiene
- Changing of bed linens
- Positioning, transfers and ambulation
- Prepare residents for meals and snacks and assist residents with dining
- Perform assigned restorative procedures including range of motion
- Encourages and directs residents in self-care or bowel and bladder programs, as indicated
- Transports residents to activities, meals, Barber or Beauty Shop or other areas inside or outside the building they may wish to go
- Assists with resident Activities Program, as assigned
- Assist with serving meals and dining room duties, as instructed
- Provides laundry and housekeeping services to residents, as assigned
- Demonstrates knowledge of infection control by showing proper handling of equipment, soiled linen, bedpans, urinals, and frequent and adequate hand washing
- Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, family members, visitors, guests and other staff members, including housekeeping duties as assigned
- Reports deficiencies observed in resident apartments, clothing, linens or anywhere else inside or outside the building
- Observes any changes in resident physical or mental status and communicates these observations to the Resident Care Director or acting supervisor in a timely manner to allow for a proactive response
- Follows Community policy and procedures detailed in safety and disaster manuals and is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures
- Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment
- Answers Community telephone promptly in a polite, courteous and intelligible manner; takes messages accurately and neatly and files those messages appropriately for staff to retrieve
- Provides supportive marketing services for after-hours inquiries, completing appropriate inquiry forms for follow-up by the Community Relations Director during the next business day
- Assures door is alarmed at all times
