Firewall Engineer

The Firewall Engineer is pivotal in ensuring the security and efficiency of our client's network infrastructures. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of various firewalls including Cisco, Fortinet, Palo-Alto and Juniper, with hands-on experience in at least two of these technologies. You will be responsible for operation and maintenance (O&M) tasks, providing escalation support from our Network Operations Center (NOC) to troubleshoot firewall and network issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform O&M duties for various firewall technologies (Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper).

• Provide high-level escalation support for firewall and network issues, working closely with our NOC team.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex network security issues.

• Mentor and guide junior technicians in both our NOC and Security Operations Center (SOC).

• Configure and maintain next-generation firewalls and understand the principles of identity management to support the building of zero-trust networks.

• Maintain, configure, and perform basic troubleshooting across firewall technologies, networking (both Layer 2 and Layer 3), and IDS/IPS platforms such as Cisco ICE.

• Understand and apply routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP in various scenarios.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• 5 to 10 years of experience in firewall administration and network security.

• Hands-on experience with at least two of the following firewalls: Cisco, Fortinet, and Juniper; experience with all three is preferred.

• Solid understanding of networking concepts (Layer 2 & Layer 3) and routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP).

• Experience with IDS/IPS platforms, preferably Cisco ICE.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with junior technicians.

• Relevant certifications (CCNA, CCNP, Fortinet, etc.) are preferred.

• Knowledge of next-generation firewalls and identity management for zero-trust network architecture.

• Must possess the ability to maintain, configure, and troubleshoot the technologies mentioned.
