Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Lead NP for the cardiology NP/PA group. I Accountability Objectives: Primarily performs the function of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in assigned are of Cardiology or Cardiovascular Surgery Additionally, provides leadership in the clinical portion of patient care at the hospital under the direction of an assigned professional. Monitors clinical inventory of work and staffing and ensures effective completion of daily activities, identifies clinical issues and corrects or directs to professional staff for resolution, and serves as clinical resource to clinical staff. II Position Qualifications: Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required. A. Education • Graduate of an accredited school of Physician Assistant Program or Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. B. Licensure / Certification Licensed to practice in the State of Michigan in one of the following: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. If Nurse Practitioner, active licensure in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse required. Certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants or the American Nursing Credentialing Commission. Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Must be credentialed for clinical privileges through the SJMO Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Credentialing committee and the SJMO Board of Trustees. C Special Skill / Aptitudes Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, families and the members of the health care team. Has ability to utilize computers and work effectively with the Electronic Health Record. Ability to work independently. Demonstrates initiative and motivation. Ability to perform effectively in stressful and or emergent conditions. Coordination of work flow skills in order to provide direction to staff according to applicable regulations, hospital policy and procedures. Analytical ability to monitor data, develop treatment plans and prescribe medications. Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups. D. Experience Management/Supervisory Experience with Advanced Practice Team preferred. Three years of clinical working experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in General Medicine or other health related field. One year working experience in a leadership role in the Cardiovascular Services specialty required. III Duties / Responsibilities: Performs functions of the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for Cardiovascular Surgery or Cardiology Services. In collaboration with the Director of Cardiovascular Services, is responsible for the safe, quality patient care through appropriate and timely triaging of patients and families and allocation of staff and supplies as needed. Serves as a clinical resource to staff. Ensures patients/clinical staff issues are resolved effectively. Manages conflict or crises situations with appropriate resources and referrals. Provides proper mentoring and training to all new clinical staff. Assists in the coaching and counseling of all team members. Provides input and participates in staff performance and evaluations. Facilitates and supports change for the Service, facilitating staff involvement whenever possible. Demonstrates excellent communication skills necessary for problem resolution, conflict resolution and conflict management with patients and families, team members and physicians. Develops collaborative relationships with physician leadership in all clinical areas. Accountable for the Services staffing plan which includes ensuring the appropriate skill mix to support acuity and census levels and all relevant personnel functions as appropriate (recruitment, hiring, orientation, progressive disciplining, evaluating, counseling and education) with primary emphasis on staff retention. Creates and fosters a positive work environment as evidenced by quality service with positive associate engagement scores.
