Hello Thank you for your interest in joining the Wellspring team as a full-time Residential Youth Social Worker. As a statewide nonprofit serving families in need of support, we take a whole-person approach to our organization and delivery of our services -- because we believe we must find the strengths in people and build on these for lasting change to occur.   As a Youth Social Worker, you’ll be part of a team that is committed to delivering exceptional services to children and their families at our Wellspring New Directions campus in Farmington Hills. New Directions is a residential program that serves youth within the foster care system with developmental disabilities; you will bring a positive attitude, patience and excellence in all you do. You will also bring a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in a behavioral science program OR a major within 25% of credits in human behavioral sciences (required); one year of experience with families in child welfare or with developmental disabilities is also required. You will also have a valid drivers license from the state of Michigan with a clean record of driving. 

As a youth social worker, you will: 
  • Collaborate with the youth’s therapist and New Directions service team to meet the educational and social-emotional learning needs of youth.
  • Provide direct service to clients including supervising visits, setting up home passes, practicing coping skills, securing state identification, and collaborating with providers in prospective discharge settings.
  • Participate in Family Team for assigned youth
  • Support the development and implementation of calming and safety plans for youth in conjunction with the youth, family, staff and referring worker
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed with youth and family
  • Promote family inclusion and collaboration in youth treatment.
  • Provide aftercare for six months to youth discharged to a community setting including regular contact with the family and collaboration with local service providers
  • Assist Education Coordinator with school registration and enrollment
  • Maintain relationships with designated school personnel
  • Supervise class attendance, monitor academic progress and act as an agency representative at IEPS, METS and other functions required for a designated group of special education students.
  • Prepare education reports for service plans. Enter contacts into service plans.
  • Assist Education coordinator with the development of appropriate educational field trips during school vacations and 10 week summer program for residents
  • Engage and include parents of residents in the educational process whenever possible and appropriate.
  • Attend and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team meetings. Provide feedback to the psychiatrist regarding residents’ school functioning when so requested.
