Position Summary:

The Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer - Data Engineering and Data Science is focused on ensuring the operational stability, performance, and cost-efficiency of our cloud-hosted data infrastructures, serving both internal and external users. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a team responsible for building and supporting scalable Data Engineering and Data Science infrastructure leveraging Azure cloud services.
  • Responsible for supporting the cloud environment including but not limited to troubleshooting issues related to artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) pipelines, cloud networking and cloud Infrastructure.
  • Work in partnership with product, data operations, and technical leadership to align engineering activities with broader company goals.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms, especially Azure, leveraging services like real-time data pipelines, Azure Data Lake, CosmosDB, Neo4j, and Azure AI/ML services.
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps practices and tools such as continuous integration (CI)/continuous delivery (CD), Git, Jenkins, Ansible, and Terraform for infrastructure automation.
  • Set up and manage effective observability solutions for data and platform services, ensuring operational excellence.
  • Strong foundation in data infrastructure tooling (e.g., Spark, Airflow, Databricks) and machine learning platforms, with a focus on Azure Machine Learning, and Neo4j for graph data analysis.
  • Collaborate with ML Engineers to build and support experimentation platforms, training frameworks, and associated tools.
  • Ability to navigate complex and ambiguous environments, while maintaining a broad business-wide perspective across various work-streams and timeframes.
  • Ensure platform security, compliance, and governance practices, including managing identity and access management (IAM) roles, encryption, auditing, and logging protocols.
  • Manage significant system upgrades, enhancements, migrations, and integration, while overseeing the release of new software to quality assurance (QA), production, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Maintain system compliance with regulatory controls such as Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), Payment Card Industry (PCI), IT General Controls, and other required security frameworks.
  • Advocate, train, and provide technical support on new technologies related to AI/ML and data infrastructure.
  • Take a significant role in the development of team members to support engagement, growth, and achievement of goals.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience.
    • Three (3) years of experience building production-level ML platforms and infrastructure, including experience building ML systems/pipelines from the ground up.
    • Experience with Neo4j and building data models and query optimizations for graph databases.
    • Experience with Azure Data Lake Services, CosmosDB, and other cloud-native data platforms to store, manage, and process large-scale datasets.
    • Ability to write high-quality code in Python.
    • Solid understanding of ML models and principles, including large language models (LLMs) and building infrastructure to support LLM applications.
    • Proficiency with containerization technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and Helm.
    • Experience with relational and low-latency databases, as well as a solid understanding of data lake strategies.
    • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and networking concepts with experience in troubleshooting issues related to the same.
    • Provide 24x7 on-call support as scheduled and be available to respond to business-critical issues.
    • Availability for overnight travel (up to 10%) and the ability to work flexible hours in response to emergencies.
    • Available for overnight travel (10%).
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
    • Must be legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
    • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience working on sensitive data projects with PCI/personally identifiable information (PII) compliance.
  • Proven experience building AI/ML infrastructure from the ground up using Azure tools such as Azure Machine Learning, Azure Synapse Analytics, and CosmosDB.
    • Familiarity with Azure cloud security best practices and data governance frameworks.

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice.
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance.
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft.

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue's Safety Management System.

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue's confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Action Report (SAR)).
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls.
  • Uphold JetBlue's safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities.
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $105,600.00 and $150,400.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
