Transfer Center Rep

Summary of Essential Functions:
- Performs assigned clerical tasks including but not limited to assignment of beds, coordinating patient transfers within the hospital, and gathering transfer information from other facilities, answering multiple telephone lines, and processing patient admissions.
- Manages routine and detailed secretarial and coordination functions within the department.
- Maintains files and reports in proper order.
- Meets deadlines with prompt, thorough approach, with ability to prioritize various requests and complete duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Previous secretarial experience in a hospital setting preferred.
- Exercise initiative to follow through on projects for timeliness, completeness, and serviceability.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with medical and technical personnel.
- Demonstrate patience, tact, diplomacy, and persistence in daily contact with patients, physicians and their staff, visitors, and all hospital personnel.
- Understand and comprehend basic medical terminology.
- Ability to type sixty (60) wpm for computer data entry ensuring correct spelling and grammar.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft.
- Primarily works the day or night shift tour of duty including weekends; additional hours may be asked to work other hours as needed.
- Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity with substantial movement of wrist and/or fingers.
- Walking and climbing to accomplish tasks.
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal or near normal range.
- Extended periods of sitting and/or walking depending on specific duties.
- According to hospital and departmental policy, utilizes Level of Care document taking into consideration patient's condition, surgical procedure, treatment required, age, and sex to determine proper bed assignment.
- Amicably coordinates efforts with nursing units.
- According to hospital and departmental policy, evaluates reasons for transfers and coordinates information with nursing units to determine priority for transfers.
- Answers multiple telephone lines. Responds in a professional and courteous manner to all callers.
- Notifies House Supervisor with bed placement issues.
- Provides patient information within hospital policy and legal compliance to our physicians, office staff, and other medical facilities, etc.
- Cross trains with other team members in appropriate job tasks.
- Strives to improve assigned processes and working with other areas on processing problem solving.
- Demonstrates a high level of flexibility, commitment and availability to the department needs.
- Completes special assignments completely and in a timely manner. Is quick to assist with needed projects/special circumstances.
- Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
