The Anesthesia Technician assists the anesthesia team prior to, during and following patient procedures in the ambulatory surgery centers that are managed by Duly Health and Care. Individuals in this position are proficient in maintenance, sterilization, packing and resupplying of anesthesia supplies and equipment in the operating room and assists during regional blocks and responds to any urgent needs. The Anesthesia Technician participates as the primary assistant to the anesthesia providers for procedures in the operating room, procedural rooms as well as other locations including pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).

Responsibilities

The Journeys and Adventures that Await

1. Pre-operative:
• Ensure anesthesia carts are supplied and machines are in each room prior to the beginning of the surgery schedule and between procedures. Checks and replaces anesthesia gas tanks as needed
• Retrieves anesthesia supplies that are anticipated and/or requested by the person administering the anesthetic before and during surgery
• Prepares complex equipment and supplies for hemodynamic monitoring. This varies based on locations and may include Nerve stimulators, ultrasound, pulse oximetry, BP cuff, ECG leads, etc.
• Ensures monitoring equipment and supplies are available and ready for patient care
• Ensures the anesthesia machine is ready for use including troubleshooting and correcting problems. Performs daily anesthesia equipment inspections including suction, electrical plugs, gas connections, oxygen, and nitrous cylinders/feeds
• May assist in positioning patients for procedures when requested
2. Intra-operative:
• Sets up equipment as requested for delivering salvaged blood products with Cell Saver
• Assist in dressing and securing IVs
• Assists Anesthesia Providers during intubating and extubating procedures as directed
• Restocks all used supplies as needed during a surgery/procedure
• Properly disposes contaminated materials and disinfects equipment in accordance with general operating room infection control policies as well as properly disposes biohazardous waste. Ensures the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimal patient care
• Maintains awareness of physiological parameters and baselines of patients during a surgery to assist the Anesthesia providers during patient care as requested
3. Post-operative:
• Cleans anesthesia equipment in the Operating Room and other assigned locations following each procedure
• Cleans and maintains anesthesia materials and equipment to ensure good working order
• Inventories and works with supply chain to order anesthesia supplies
• Responds to requests made by anesthesiologists, CRNAs, Charge RN, Nurse Manager, and other team members as appropriate to facilitate the preparation and the delivery of anesthesia
• Trouble shoots broken equipment and coordinates repairs/replacements with clinical engineering and ASC administration
• Utilizes free time efficiently by assisting other team members, completing daily and weekly tasks, restocking supplies and working on projects or activities as assigned

Qualifications

The Experiences You Bring

Anesthesia Tech Certification required if does not have associate degree
BLS required
Associate degree required if does not have Anesthesia Tech Certificate

1 year experience required as an Anesthesia Tech

Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
Excellent customer service skills

Proficiency in aseptic and decontamination processes
