Overview

The Accountant, Senior will be responsible for the preparation and/or review of monthly and annual financial statements, tax return source schedules and supporting audit schedules as assigned; using all resources available to resolve differences or complete analysis; and maintaining the general ledger. Differences should be resolved and analytical review of the financial statements is to be provided to management. The Accountant, Senior will also be responsible for the preparation and/or review of the monthly consolidated statements and the release of monthly financial packets to the organization.

The Accountant, Senior will lend support to the training initiatives of the department relative to financial reporting on FMS, Crystal, Reveal and other of Finance's core software systems. The individual will assist accounting management in aligning the reporting needs of the company with the abilities of finance's core software systems (Power, ECI, Time &Attendance, & FMS) to ensure the best use of these systems as it pertains to the reporting requirements of the work unit. This includes the revision and/or development of month end line of business financial reporting packets and the responsibility to recommend changes in an effort to promote efficiency.

The Accountant, Senior will represent tax & accountings interests on new product and strategic initiatives and power upgrades. The individual will participate as required on the Activate, Feasibility and Power MHS upgrade teams.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required. An additional four (4) years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Four (4) years of experience in accounting required. CPA strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of general ledger systems and PC/Windows skills, spreadsheet experience required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Access), Visio, Project Planning software, and Crystal Reporting preferred.

  • Must be detail oriented in the documentation of complex processes (i.e. create workflow diagrams, action plans). Attention to detail is critical.

  • Analytical skills to prepare and analyze business plans and technical designs.

  • Ability to accept responsibility, work well on teams, and make decisions.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects. Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to identify problems and recommend appropriate resolutions.

Essential Accountabilities
  • Accounting & Analysis

    • Must be familiar with PowerMHS and have technical knowledge of accounting specific applications' (FMS general ledger, time & attendance and tax software) functions as they relate to these processes and be able to align reporting requirements to these systems functionality.

    • Prepare and or review journal entries by gathering appropriate documentation. Ensure journal entries have appropriate documentation and are complete.

    • Prepare and/or review supporting monthly/quarterly/annual schedules for audit and management. Perform analytical procedures.

    • Prepare and review monthly financial statements utilizing both GAAP & SAP methods.

    • Review accounts payable invoices for accurate general ledger coding, as needed.

    • Assist in the maintenance of departmental financial spreadsheets to ensure appropriate level of spreadsheet controls.

    • Lend support accounting management to ensure appropriate data classification and handling procedures are properly maintained in accordance with organizational policies/requirements.

    • Create, develop, generate and review for accuracy financial summary reports for management, as requested, by using report writer applications in FMS and Crystal Reports.

    • Provide analytical summaries of financial statements and supporting schedules by generating, developing and maintaining standard reports such as the variance analysis.

    • Any variances in account reconciliations should be investigated prior to close and findings documented with proposed solutions.

    • Assist accounting management with researching of new and updated accounting pronouncements, as needed, summarizing impact on the operations and/or reporting processes.

    • Work with accounting management to provide guidance to the affiliates related to the operational and reporting responsibilities of the month end closing process. Continue to work with their reporting units to build efficiencies into the monthly closing process and streamline reporting for consistency.



  • Regulatory

    • Must be familiar with GAAP, SAP and tax reporting requirements.

    • Lend support in the accurate and timely filing of all regulatory and tax reporting.



  • Team Building

    • Assist accounting management in the development and training of the tax and accounting team to provide them with the skills and tools necessary for an effective collaboration with other business units within the organization.

    • Coordinate with bookkeepers, staff accountants and/or manager to maintain the flow of information within the accounting department and other departments by initiating requests for information or other means.

    • Recommend/develop processes that will create efficiency and process improvements.

    • Support other departments on the Strategic Initiatives (i.e. CAP, PCIP, Information Capability, Retail Exchange).

    • Assist accounting management in the development of new policies and procedures that will be implemented to support the new product(s). Work with accounting management to ensure the design/processes are compatible with the MHS system and our Financial Reporting system.

    • Develop/update test scenarios, including the testing of all queries and outside interfaces used by finance to ensure they are compatible and functional with the new product. Timely documentation and presentation of testing failures, to Accounting Management is required.



  • Training

    • Update/review documentation of procedures for the department procedure manual.

    • Act as a mentor within the department, assist and/or coordinate training of the staff accountants and bookkeepers to ensure accurate completion of job functions and promote staff development.

    • Coordinate and train other individuals within the organization on the use of predefined on-line inquiries in FMS and the review of the monthly financial reporting packets on Reveal.



  • Financial Systems

    • The Accountant, Senior will assist accounting management in the development and updating of processes and procedures relative to the accurate reporting of financial information and intercompany charges. Work with department management to ensure systems support this reporting.



  • Communication/Time Management

    • Understand and interpret new concepts and various information with the ability to present ideas in their simplest form and view with a global perspective.

    • Produce timely financial information to management to meet predetermined deadlines established by the accounting department, audit and external federal and state agencies by efficiently managing time.

    • Participate on interdepartmental teams so that the accounting function is represented and information is communicated back to the department.
