Chief Purpose of this position:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery invites qualified candidates to apply for this exciting opportunity for a general orthopaedicsurgeon. This position will provide high quality general orthopaedic care for patients at VCU Health System in both inpatient and outpatient settings as part of a multidisciplinary team and have an opportunity to contribute to ongoing clinical quality improvement initiatives. The faculty member will collaborate with other faculty to provide teaching and mentoring opportunities to medical students, residents and, fellows. This position will have an opportunity to contribute to clinical research based on experience and interest

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching
The candidate will staffinpatient services with learners including medical students, interns andresidents; use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-basedpractice; demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as ateacher for learners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learnersin a timely manner.

Research
The candidate will participate in clinical and administrativeresearch, according to skills, interest and funding; research opportunities mayinclude performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally fundedinvestigations; participation may be as principal investigator orco-investigator; maintain a level of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgeryconsistent with academic rank.

Service
The candidate will work withinstitutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives ofVCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customersatisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscalhealth.

Clinical
The candidate will admit andmanage patients who present through the general orthopaedic service,co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patient requiringadmission in the Emergency Department and non-medical services and non-VCUhospitals; join colleagues in assuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day ofthe year; comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies forprofessional work including credentialing, documentation, billing; workeffectively with other members of the extended inter-professional team.

Administrative
The candidate will ensure compliance with allregulatory and regulatory reimbursement requirement.

Required Qualifications:
  • M.D. degree and ABOS certification/eligibility in OrthopaedicSurgery
  • Must have successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in orthopaedicsurgery
  • Record of scholarly publication in peer review journals
  • Direct experience managing complex general orthopaedic cases, competence instandard inpatient procedures
  • A solid understanding of the general orthopaedic role and function and interestin teaching and growth in an academic setting
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability towork as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal andwritten.
  • Interest in furthering the research, scholarly, and academic missions of thegroup.
