PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Occupational Therapist provides occupational therapy services to students in a PreK-12 school setting to help them develop, recover, and improve skills needed for daily living and learning. The Occupational Therapist works closely with students, parents, teachers, and other members of the educational team.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  1. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  2. Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  4. Evaluates students to identify needs and impairments that may interfere with functional performance in the educational environment. Assess fine motor skills, sensory processing, coordination, balance, cognition, and other areas impacting participation and performance.
  5. Develops individualized treatment plans and interventions to help students improve motor control and coordination, build skills, modify tasks or environments, and promote increased independence. Provide direct occupational therapy services through individual and group sessions.
  6. Recommends adaptive equipment, technology solutions, and accommodations to support student participation and success with educational activities.
  7. Train students, families, and school staff on implementation of adaptive equipment.
  8. Consults and collaborates with Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams to develop appropriate goals and strategies to support students.
  9. Participates in IEP meetings and provides assessment data.
  10. Maintains accurate treatment records, collects data, and monitors student progress. Modify plans as needed. Presents student progress reports to teachers, parents, administrators, and others.
  11. Promotes occupational therapy understanding and awareness. Educates school staff, families, and community on how occupational therapy helps support student achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited OT program; Active state licensure to practice occupational therapy required; 2-3 years of experience working with adolescents in a school or clinical/hospital setting preferred.

WORK CALENDAR: 9-Months

WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.

The Physical Requirements of the Position

1.

Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary Work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision

Machine Operations - inspection, close assembly, clerical, administration. This is a minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading, or visual inspection.

Mechanics - Skilled tradespeople - This is a minimum standard for use with those whose work deals with machines such as power tools, lathes, and drills.
