POSITION: Housekeeper
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities
DEPARTMENT: Housekeeping
EXEMPT/ NONEXEMPT: Non-Exempt
REVISED: September 2014
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Maintain clean environment for residents and staff. Perform routine cleaning of resident rooms, halls, offices, and other assigned areas. Follow policies and procedures of department with regard to duties. Reports to department supervisor.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans resident rooms, break room, nurse's stations, halls, offices, and other assigned areas.
- Performs daily tasks in accordance with infection control and universal precaution policies and procedures.
- Respects confidentiality and resident's rights.
- Follows dress code according to department policies.
- Respects and shows kindness to all residents.
- Assure that floors are free of hazardous debris.
- Practice good body mechanics in regards to lifting.
- Protect and maintain all work areas in accordance with facility safety policies.
- Perform tasks such as wash over-the-bed lights, pictures and objects on walls, wall washing, baseboards, etc. as assigned.
- Occasionally orients new employees
- Work schedule can change due to filling in for vacations and call offs.
- Rotating on call schedule for weekends.
- May need to be trained for laundry operations.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and follow oral and written directions in English.
- Applicant should be at least 18 years of age.
- Housekeeping personnel are directly supervised by the head of the housekeeping department.
- Must have initiative and judgment to do assigned tasks.
- Must be able to organize work.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.
- Must have abilities to evaluate work and set priorities.
- Completes incident reports.
- Submits request for supplies.
- Reports orally to supervisor regarding repairs.
- Brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners as well as floor equipment (ex: carpet extractor.)
- On occasion, will use floor buffer.
- Must maintain cordial relations with residents, families, visitors and others.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and maintain cooperative spirit with staff.
- Stands and walks throughout the day on hard surfaces.
- Turns, bends, kneels, and pushes housekeeping cart many times daily.
- Pushes beds weighing up to 300 lbs on a daily basis.
- Climbs stepladder on a daily basis.
- Lifts 50-75 lbs. on a daily basis.
- Works indoors in a lighted, ventilated, and heated building.
- Tolerates odors coming from residents and soiled linen on a daily basis.
- Occasionally may be asked to work out of doors picking up trash.
Education/Experience
- High School Graduate preferred.
- Ability to pass activity certification program.
- Willing to increase training through in-services in and outside facility.
Indoors - Works in well lighted and ventilated areas. Subject to possible falls, odors, and injuries from equipment. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, chemicals, and various viruses, including Hepatitis B and AIDS.
Outdoors - Possible exposure to weather extremes.
