Brief Job Description: The Early Childhood Mental Health Program is a community resource available to child care centers, families, and community partners. The Early Childhood Mental Health Program works to improve the childhood experience of children ages birth-5 by addressing their social, emotional, and relational needs. The Early Childhood Mental Specialist provides assessments of mental health needs of children currently in child centers. Therapeutic services are provided to children and their families in the home, in the office, and child care centers, with an emphasis being on home based services. Outreach and instructional programs to caregivers and families through public and private child care centers and other groups are also provided. Although not part of the Early Childhood Mental Health Program, the Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist also performs Autism Assessments on a wide range of children for families as requested. Candidate will provide quality psychotherapy to children, primarily ages 0-5 years old, who are experiencing mental illness or behavior problems. Position will work closely with area daycare and preschool centers. Candidate will provide trainings to daycares and other agencies as requested, as well as be a member of local and agency committees as needed or assigned. Candidate will train staff on Autism topics throughout the year as part of the Regional Autism Training Team and complete Autism Assessments, this will require obtaining a trainer’s credential. Candidate will have direct oversight and responsibility for maintaining the Early Childhood Mental Health grant, which will require travel at times to other counties, centers, and state meetings.

Position requires Master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family, or psychology. Certification or licensure eligibility. Experience working with children with severe emotional disturbances in a psychotherapy setting preferred
