Role Overview and Responsibilities

Job Summary

Responsible for mechanical design aspects of military and commercial high density power supplies, magnetics, dry type transformers and power systems related hardware. Capable of creating innovative designs for exciting new programs with demanding packaging requirements.

Able to communicate with customers regarding specifications for new products, as well as TT's design and manufacturing teams to support all mechanical design related activities.

Perform mechanical design for specific requirements. Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Creates original packaging designs including design layout, detail design, tolerance studies, selection of material and finishes, fastening and joining while taking shock, vibration, thermal stress, heat transfer, electromagnetic interference and magnetic shielding considerations into account. Lead improvement of these designs during the product lifecycle.
  • Analyze thermal path and power consumption requirements to optimize design layouts.
  • Perform detailed mechanical analysis to simulate the effects of shock, vibration, thermal stress, heat transfer, creepage clearance.
  • Support and participate in related engineering review meetings.
  • Lead and present mechanical design and analysis results in customer meetings as required.
  • Writes engineering reports and assists in the preparation of world-class technical proposals.
  • Support and participate in MRB activities as required.
  • Support and participate in CCB activities as required.
  • Support production line producibility activities including lead time and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Support supplier and material selection activities.
  • Prepare engineering change orders as required.
Essential Functions:
  • Mechanical design, packaging and documentation of power conversion products (Power Supplies, magnetics and transformers)
  • Perform analyses to ensure that power supplies and magnetics meet challenging performance and environmental conditions such as corona, vibration, flammability.
  • Great written and verbal skills
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
  • 5-10 years Design Experience
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering a must, MSME Preferred
  • Must be proficient in Creo, AutoCAD, MS Office, ANSYS and IcePak
  • Previous experience with military high reliability programs and working with Military Standards is desirable.
  • Proven experience to bring innovation to packaging and mechanical designs in challenging environments such as corona, structural noise, airborn noise, shock audible noise etc.
  • Should have design knowledge of cooling methods such as liquid cooled, air-cooled, water-cooled, fuel cooled etc.
  • Should have knowledge of fabrication such as machining, welding, sheet metal, potting, impregnation etc.
  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.
