Job Description

The Clinical Educator (CE) works under the direction of Sr. Director, Education and Development to develop and deliver onboarding clinical training for new hires in Organ Donation Services (ODS), is the primary preceptor to new ODS clinical staff and assists to manage the Donation Coordinator (DC), Clinical Responder (CR) and Referral
Resource Coordinator (RRC) preceptor programs. The CE responds on site to referrals and cases to train new clinical coordinators during the orientation period and assists to oversee annual competency validations of all clinical staff.

FOCUS AREAS/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Training:

  • Serves as primary preceptor and oversees new hire clinical activity to ensure effective case exposure for continued progression through orientation program.
  • Manages preceptor practice to ensure consistency and compliance with program expectations.
  • Oversees debriefing process and competency documentation, providing feedback on staff performance and competencies to respective managers and Sr. Director, Education and Development.
  • Identifies and supervises need for additional training beyond orientation program; provides 1:1 education as needed.
  • Responsible for updating, developing and delivering clinical on-boarding training.

Clinical:

  • Participates on the call schedule 6 16-hour shifts per 4-week rotation to train new DC and CR hires.
  • Works collaboratively with Sr. Director, Education and Development, Director, Safety and Risk Management and other designated colleagues to conduct annual assessment of DC and CR clinical skills and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • May be required to respond on-site with clinical new hires on non-scheduled call days to further skill development.

Leadership:

  • Works collaboratively with Sr. Director, Education and Development to develop metrics to assess the effectiveness of training, development programs and competency evaluation.
  • Acts as a leader and mentor to clinical staff by communicating effectively and diplomatically, is approachable and open-minded, consistently exhibits positive attitude, demonstrates teamwork and complies with clinical practice and regulatory standards at all times.
  • Works with administrative team to create orientee call schedule.
  • Oversees and facilitates clinical component of DC Trainer Meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with Sr. Director, Education and Development to oversee assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Participates in committee as assigned.

Other:

  • Participates in all required meetings including, but not limited to, remote conferences, departmental meetings, combined team meetings and staff meetings.
  • Performs above duties and other duties assigned by Sr. Director, Education and Development

Qualifications:
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Skilled Presenter: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and large group sessions. Ability to motivate the learner.

Clinical Knowledge: Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical protocol, procedures, and standards for Donation Coordinator and Clinical Responder roles.

Assessment and Feedback: Ability to conduct objective clinical assessments, identify individual need for skill development and provide constructive feedback and coaching.

Computer & Application Literacy: Skilled in Word, Excel, Outlook, email and the ability to learn NEDS’ internal systems including, but not limited to, True North and SharePoint.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to communicate openly and effectively with all members of hospital and NEDS teams, both on cases and during delivery of educational programs.

Project Management Skills : Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities, and utilize time-management skills to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Donation Coordinator in an organ procurement organization (OPO) preferred.
  • Critical care experience and/or training to include RN, PA, Respiratory Therapist and/or related experience.
  • Previous collaboration with Education & Development department to train, develop and/or deliver clinical content as DC 2, DC 3, Senior DC, serve as a Trainer, or similar experience in another OPO or clinical field.
  • Proven clinical competence as determined by Sr. Director, Education and Development and/or current supervisor.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and sufficient automobile insurance coverage, per resident state minimum.
  • Current CPTC
