Will provide bedside education to the unit nurse, ensuring competency through both skill validation and frequent monitoring of all staff. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum of 2 years Pediatric/PICU Experience SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Must be flexible to meet educational needs of night shift and weekend shift employees, and serves as a non-voting member of UPC councils. Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others. Essential Functions: Collaborate with supervisors, managers, nurse practitioners and physicians to address issues related to nursing practice and documentation trends. Facilitate practice and documentation changes when needed. Develop, maintain, and monitor staff competencies and keep records for annual review. Report any non-compliance of staff competencies to manager at the beginning of each month. Plan and coordinate unit educational presentations as needed. Provide opportunities for less experienced staff to grow and develop their unit specific skills. Develop and coordinate advanced nursing educational opportunities. Participate in the unit/dept chart review meeting, quality meeting and UPC. Review overall compliance by staff with regulatory agencies related to patient safety including DNV, OSHA, CMS, and IDPH. Utilize information technology to obtain evidence-based practices and the latest research to provide current best practice information to care providers on the unit. Write new Evidence Based Practice, review all procedures and standards annually and provide suggested edits/consolidations. Ensure that the policies/procedures/standards reflect current practice and are consistent. Perform educational evaluation for nursing staff. Develop and coordinate orientation for various groups, such as, new RNs and HCTs/MAs, travel RN staff, float staff, and volunteers. Collaborate with other departments to develop consistent education and orientation programs. Be available for consultation to additional special interest committees. Recruit, prepare, and coordinate unit RN staff for preceptor positions. Serve as a resource for professional growth with RNs interested in the professional advancement ladder. Provide direct patient care 1- 12 hour shift per week.
