The City of Friendswood is seeking a dynamic Recreation Specialist to design and lead exciting programs for our vibrant senior community. In this role, you'll help plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of programs, outings, and activities specifically tailored to the interests and needs of seniors in the City of Friendswood's Senior Program. You will help create meaningful and engaging experiences that encourage social interaction, promote physical activity, and improve the overall well-being of older adults, ensuring a fun and inclusive environment for everyone.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Coordination: Plan and schedule programs, trips, and activities based on the interests and needs of senior citizens.
- Promote the Senior Center and Its Programs: Assist in promoting the Senior Citizen Program by helping to create and design various promotional materials, including advertisements, brochures, website content, and social media posts, to enhance visibility and encourage greater community engagement with the center's offerings.
- Meal Program Management: Oversee the Title III Congregate Meal Program, ensuring smooth operation, tracking meals, and maintaining compliance with guidelines.
- Facility & Equipment Management: Oversee the preparation and setup of the senior center for daily activities, manage transportation, and ensure van maintenance.
- Supervision & Staff Management: Supervise and train part-time staff, volunteers, and instructors.
- Administrative & Financial Oversight: Handle program registration, process financial transactions, and report on program activities and expenditures.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: College degree (non-technical) or equivalent job-specific technical skills gained through extensive on-the-job training.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience working with senior citizens, preferably in a municipal government or related setting.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record; must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Parks and Recreation, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience working with seniors or in municipal government.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with a standard 40+ hour workweek. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Must be available for emergency situations as needed.
