Diagnostic Imaging Specialist Job Summary:

Greets and interviews patients, relatives or patient representatives to gather and record demographic information for various Diagnostic Records and provision of care. Functions as the focal communications center of Diagnostic Imaging, answers, screens and routes all telephone calls. Interprets and replicates written physician requests into the hospital information system quickly and accurately with minimal supervision. Scans physician orders into the Diagnostic information system.

Diagnostic Imaging Service Specialist Essential Responsibilities:
  • Politely receives, greets, and directs patients, visitors and hospital personnel who arrive in the Diagnostic Imaging Dept.
  • Interviews all outpatients and inputs appropriate clinical history and selects exam ordered by physician in hospital information system to generate computer requisition and maintain accurate billing for all outpatient exams.
  • Processes all incoming computer requisitions for ED and Inpatient DI exams.
  • Processes all requisitions for Danielson Diagnostic Center and Plainfield Diagnostic Center and submits for radiological interpretation.
  • Maintains accurate files on all Diagnostic Imaging examinations and reports.
  • Courteously handles telephone requests with respect for confidentiality, routes calls or documents accurate messages.
  • Responsible for accurate filing and maintenance of requisitions received via interoffice mail and fax for all diagnostic exams.
  • Photocopies confidential patient reports, films and burns CDs upon request after receiving proper identification and signed requests.
  • Retrieves films and reports from off site facility on daily basis.
  • Multitasks at answering phones, greeting patients, inputting orders and fielding questions.
  • Operates various office equipment such as PC, fax, scanner, CD burner and copy machines.
Diagnostic Imaging Service Specialist Education Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
Diagnostic Imaging Service Specialist Experience Requirements:
  • Three to twelve months performing clerical duties or experience in a healthcare office environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Strong PC skills.
