Responsibilities:

  • Manages structural projects, including the complete design of building systems in hot-rolled steel, cold-formed steel, concrete, masonry, and timber
  • Takes projects from inception to closeout, including preparing project-specific construction specifications and construction administration. This includes calculations, creating detailed designs, models and drawings for structures used in preliminary schematics, design development, construction, and record documents
  • Inspects construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards
  • Prepares opinions on costs and written reports
  • Assists in proposal generation and fee estimates
  • Works collaboratively with other departments
  • Establishes and maintains client relationships

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a ABET accredited university with a focus on Structural Engineering
  • 6+ years of experience preferably in Structural Engineering and on a variety of project sizes and types
  • PE Licensure in NC or able to obtain one within six (6) months of hire
  • Experience with Building Structural Engineering AutoCAD and REVIT software
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as RAM Steel, RAM Elements, RISA Platforms and ENERCALC
  • Strong knowledge of mechanics of materials, steel, concrete, masonry, and timber design desired
  • Knowledge of building codes, including application of ASCE-7.
  • Ability to create, read, and interpret structural calculations and construction drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adhere to all deadlines, budgets, and contractual obligations of each project
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
  • Ability to collaborate
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to drive, visit job sites and walk on rough and uneven terrain, climb and balance (on a ladder), and enter a crawlspace as needed
