Number of beds on unit: 50 beds (divided between A side with 24 beds and B side with 26 beds)

  • Patient population: Primarily cardiac and pulmonary patients, as well as medical-surgical overflow with a variety of diagnoses. Adult population over 17 years of age.
  • Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:4-6
  • Department culture and resources: Fast-paced unit with medically complex patients. Strong communication skills are crucial, and teamwork is emphasized to provide high-quality care.
  • Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Management of cardiac drips, post-procedural care, medication administration, communication with interdisciplinary teams, and utilization of various medical equipment.
  • Responsibilities: Assessment, plan of care development, patient and employee safety, communication, competence fulfillment.
  • Job duties: Management of acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients, collaborative goal setting, care plan maintenance, interventions, patient preparation, discharge planning, documentation, team huddles, evaluation, delegation, basic care, conflict management, and professional communication.
