Summary:
Responsible for performing all MRI procedures in a timely manner. Performs procedures according to the physician's orders. As a member of the Radiology team, the MRI Technologist is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited radiology, magnetic resonance (MR) program, licensed vocational nursing, or emergency medical technician program required.
§ Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) general certification within three (3) months of hire required.
§ Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) MRI certification within twelve (12) months of hire preferred.
§ Current State of Texas license (TMB) preferred.
o Magnetic Resonance (MR) Program Graduate:
§ Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) MRI certification or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) required within twelve (12) months of hire required.
o Licensed Vocational Nursing Program:
§ Current licensed vocational nursing license in the State of Texas. LVN license required.
o Emergency Medical Technician Program:
§ Current license in the State of Texas as a Paramedic. EMT-P required.
- American Heart Association BLS certification required.
- American Heart Association ACLS and PALS recommended.
- Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
- Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
- Good verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English required. Spanish preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
- Computer knowledge required.
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
- Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
- Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
- Performs necessary quality control and maintenance on equipment.
- Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
- Responsible for performing all MRI radiological procedures in a timely manner as per procedure protocols, optimizing imaging protocols to produce diagnostic-quality images.
- Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
- Assumes responsibility for the collection and processing of patient specimens.
- Completes accurate documentation on patient records according to policy.
- Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems.
- Insures exams are verified and completed in PACS and RIS systems.
- Responsible for training MRI technologists with the appropriate procedure protocols.
- Confirms that equipment and supplies are MRI compatible.
- Adheres to MRI safety zones and conducts appropriate MRI screening process per policies and procedures.
- Maintain Texas Department of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
- Maintain equipment and procedure competencies.
- Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Complete and update all employment requirements, including continuing education (i.e. HealthStream), Employee Health, and Radiology Competencies, Credentials, etc.
- Responsible for earning and submitting 10 Category A credits of continuing education related to MRI annually.
- Passing of a registry does not constitute CE credits.
- Call is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- At least two (2) years of hospital experience preferred.
- Able to demonstrate high degree of competency and experience with MRI procedures preferred.
- Demonstrates accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.
- Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
- Requires working with frequent interruptions.
- Must project a professional image.

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
