CIVIL ENGINEER/PROJECT MANAGER


Role Description: Huitt-Zollars' Austin, TX office has a full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineer and/or Project Manager to provide engineering design and/or project management for civil engineering projects in Central Texas. Huitt-Zollars is a leading Engineering and Architectural firm providing innovative planning, engineering, architectural and interior design, construction and program management. Registration(s): Registered Professional Engineer

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)


Duties:

  • Produce quality civil engineering plans
  • Design experience with paving, grading, roadways, water, wastewater, drainage, water quality and/or detention ponds
  • Experience with preparing permit applications, reports, specifications, cost estimates
  • Ability to use Civil 3D design software and/or Microstation/Open Roads, a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely
  • Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects
  • Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients
  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm
  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
  • Texas PE registration or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Lead and manage the production of quality civil engineering plans (paving, grading, roadways, water, wastewater, drainage, water quality ponds, detention ponds)
  • Prepare permit applications and obtain permits required for construction
  • Produce engineering reports, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Ability to work in a team and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to train staff and review work for quality assurance
  • Maintain successful client relationships
  • Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects
  • Manage the proposal process in the procurement of projects
  • Ensure projects are completed within client specifications, budgets and schedules
  • Ability to use Civil 3D design software and/or Microstation/Open Roads, a plus but not required
  • Skilled with Microsoft software

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
